For the past few weeks, and probably for the next several months, I have been in a transition phase. Everything from my meals and my workouts to my daily work schedule has been changing. I am, for the most part, a 'go with the flow' type of person. But I do need some structure and plan to follow. So I started planning my workouts and meals. Then gradually I added in BF's work schedule, which is actually the cause of my gray hair! Ill take you through my current planning schedule and also tell you how this will be changing in the next couple of weeks.
Saturday mornings seem to be when I have the most down time right now. So most Saturdays I sit down with my meal planning/workout calendar and start to plan my week. I usually begin by checking my iCalendar for all events that may be happening that week to decide when I will be doing my workouts. In a perfect World I will workout in the AM every weekday and Tues and Thurs evening I teach a PIYO class. One weekend day is a long run while I train for the Marine Corp Marathon. As you can see all of my workouts are listed on the left side of the weekly planner.
My next task is meals for the week and this is where BF's schedule comes into play. When he is traveling or in the fire house I tend to eat lighter/plan food differently so his schedule is always important to take into consideration. My breakfasts and snacks during the week are ALWAYS the same, Shakeology for breakfast and snacks include bananas(and other fruit), nuts, cottage cheese, or protein bars. Lunches are a combination of different things that I will prep on Sunday afternoon and same with dinner. For me, planning my meals for the week has become not only a time saver but also a way for me to eat healthier and save money. I no longer stand in front of the fridge in the morning wondering whats for lunch to only get angry at my lack of options and not bring anything with me and then have to decide at noon where I am going to pick up food. The end product is below.
Now here comes the messy part and this is a main transition point for me in the next couple of weeks. I plan my tasks for the week on a monthly planner but only fill in the week at hand. This schedule lists all of the posts I need to do for the week for my blog as well as my Fitness Challenge groups. I add firehouse days to that schedule as well as my personal development. Any errands I need to do during the week are added to the days I plan to do them and if they are not accomplished are added to the weekend. This list is always changing and usually has a TON of cross outs and scribbles by the end of the week. There is a snap shot of it below.
If you look at my two schedules side by side you may realize that they are formatted differently. This has caused a lot of confusion for me in the past. My meals and workouts are a Sunday-Saturday format and errands and to-do is Monday-Sunday. This has become the bane of my existence and a change I can not WAIT to make. You can also see how small I have to write to get everything into the little box for the day ..... Not easy for someone with huge handwriting.
Starting next week I will be doing all of my planning in one place so it wont be as messy and I wont be carrying around loose pieces of paper. My Erin Condron planner is in the mail and I'm ready to rock that calendar!! This will be my first EVER planner so I'm sure I will be posting about it again once I am settled into a routine. I will compare the two methods, I'm pretty sure I know which one I'll like better! If you want to look into Erin Condron products you can use the link below and get $10 off your first order.
Sitting down and planning my week usually takes about 2 cups of tea, breakfast, a bloody Mary, 4 phone calls, and my Shake! Not too bad if you ask me. Overall, planning really saves me time and energy during the week. I was never a planner or prone to write things down, this has changed drastically since starting a business, as I now have numerous tasks daily that are all as important as the next.
Please feel free to ask questions or comment on how you plan.
