In October I will attempt something I said I would never do ... So im a little nervous.
The Marine Corp Marathon in DC is an elite Marathon and 10K that travels through Washington DC and at the end you are presented your medal by a Marine in Dress Uniform! I may cry ... I cant tell yet!
Not having planned this in advance I will be running with a charity bib. If you are not a runner and dont know what that means, let me explain......
As a runner I spend most of my early mornings worrying about being the right temperature during my runs, having enough food and/or water while running, will the cars be able to see me before the sun comes up, where can I run that will be safe for me. My days are worrying about keeping hydrated, fed well, and stretched out enough for my next run. My evenings are spent on the computer looking for my next run and spending WAY too much money to join other crazies, I mean runners, at races. Sometimes if you want to get into a run badly enough you wake up in the middle of the night to register or leave the party you are attending to sign up (Army 10 miler and Boilermaker!)
If for some reason you over sleep or you can't leave your current engagement you get locked out of an event. This leaves you with only a few options (other than stomping your feet and crying)......... 1. waiting until the race is closer and begging someone else for their bib, 2. signing up with a charity, or 3. NOT RUNNING.
#3 is never REALLY an option!
For this race I get the supreme honor of running for a charity called Hope for Warriors this organizations goal is something that is so relevant in todays society. Please take a look at their page and if you are able please consider donating to this great group via my marathon page.
I know that there are so many worthy organizations out there that all deserve and NEED our help, so even if you cant donate please take the time to look at their mission and pass along their message.
I am lucky enough to live in a country where all the crazy things I mentioned above are possible for me and those things would not be possible with out the soldiers that fight everyday for those freedoms. Those same soldiers need and deserve all the support they can get whenever and however possible.
Now I just need to fit 18 miles in my schedule this weekend! Wish me luck.
Fair Winds!
