I'm watching the Today Show yesterday, like most mornings, right before I leave to start my day. One of the main stories is yet another political piece about the election trail and all of the debates and 'town hall meetings' that are happening across the country. I half listen because I want to know the main happenings but not all of the 'he said, she said'
This morning was different though, something caught my ear and I have been perplexed ever since. I heard one of the MANY male candidates say 'I am an honorary woman'
In sorry, You are a WHAT NOW?!
What does that entail?
Are you being paid less than your counterparts?
When you come to work in a bad mood are you asked if you are on your period or called a bitch?
Please tell us, as a 74 year old white male, how difficult it was for you growing up, getting into college, and becoming a Senator in Vermont!
By all means.... Enlighten us!
I am not claiming to be anything but a middle class white girl. But PLEASE, as an OLD white man do not try to get MY vote by saying some woman, who I could care less about, said you were an 'Honorary Woman!' You are no type of woman.
You have never had to walk down a hallway with blood dripping down your leg and act like everything was ok, decide what kind of birth control is best for you (Bc the man you are dating doesn't want to wear a condom), figure out if a skirt is too controversial to wear to a job interview, dye your hair so you didn't look 'too old' for a job (or a date, or yoga class!), not discuss your kids so your date didn't think you were premiscuous, hold back your thoughts in a meeting.
As far as I know, being deemed 'Honorary' means you have been through the same things the people accomplishing the same task have been through.
Please correct if I'm wrong.
By no means do I consider myself an extreme feminist. So please, take this rant as a completely indifferent individual just trying to make a point.
I am still in the midst of deciding who will get my vote in November...... But I know for a fact who will NOT get my vote come Democratic Primary day in NYS.
Fair Winds!
